Making Opportunities Count

Trevor (pictured) came to Joblink Plus Tamworth about 5 months ago as part of the Transition to Work program. Transition to Work is specifically designed to help young people aged 15 – 21 years move from school into work or training. That’s exactly what Trevor has done in the short amount of time working with Libby (pictured) from Joblink Plus.

When Trevor first came to Joblink Plus he talked about his interest in working in the construction industry. He and Libby looked at different ways he could gain some skills and Trevor ended up enrolling in a Certificate II construction course at TAFE New England. He was really enjoying the course and learning a lot when his teacher mentioned that a local employer was looking for someone to do concreting work. Trevor was keen to give it a go, and during the two week TAFE break he worked with the local employer who was really impressed with Trevor’s efforts and kept him on casually while Trevor finished his course.

Last week, Trevor finished his TAFE course and was offered full time work! With the help of Libby he got himself some tools and clothing to make sure he is part of the team with all of the correct gear. Trevor is really excited with the opportunities that lie ahead. He wants to keep learning and progressing in his new job, and is working towards gaining his provisional driver’s licence with the help of lessons from Joblink Plus.

Libby is very proud of Trevor, saying “He is a great young guy with really good initiative, I think he’ll be great in his new job”.
